5 Weeks In and I am...

...down for the week. More about that in a minute...

Another crazy week complete in my new life; what a WEEK.

I'm beginning to get it, though. That's LIFE. And I've gotta roll with it.

I'm not going to have days and days and DAYS where everything is perfect - perfect food portions, perfect choices, perfect, perfect, perfect...

What the H E double hockey sticks is perfect, anyway?

So...what's the recap? Let's see:

Week 5 at a Glance:

Day 29: 289.2 - In the 8's and feelin' great!

Day 30: 285.6 - Wow, big drop; now how can I mess THIS up?

Day: 31: 285.8 - I gained .2 pounds, not complaining, it happens.

Day 32: 286.6 - Another gain, UGH, told you I was going to mess it up.

Day 33: 286.2 - Whew, lost a few ounces, what a relief.

Day 34: 286.4 - UP a couple of ounces, grrrrr...

Day 35: 288.2 - THAT'S me in double cheeseburger HELL, right there.

Day 36: 286.2 - Today begins week 6 and I'm feelin' fine.

So, to bottom-line the recap, I lost 3 pounds in week 5, for a total of 20.2 pounds down, EXACTLY, in 35 days. That's 4 pounds per week on average and that's a GREAT number.

What I have to remember, is that I am human, prone to making stupid mistakes and giving in (sometimes) much too easily.

I also must remember that this IS the rest of my life and I am the only one who can determine my next step.

Speaking of steps...

I have been wearing my BERNdometer for 17 days, walking 102,902 steps (not including today's steps, which is the 18th day and not over yet, ya see...)...

...which gives me an average of 6,053 steps per day - roughly 3 miles per day.

Not too shabby. I still need to step it up a bit to make my 100 miles in August goal; but I am walking more steps daily and I do feel proud of the result.

I also have a problem...

Oh, lordy, here we go...

But no, seriously, just listen...

The other day I mentioned something to Gary that didn't strike me until much later on. I said: "Ya know, I am so worried about this 285 thing (my weight on the scale for that day). I have been THERE so many times in the last 2 years..."

What hit me later is this:

I am SCARED TO DEATH that I will never be less than 285.

I have gone up and down between 285 and 300+ for the last 2 years solid - losing the same 15-20 pounds over and over and OVER again. I am terrified that I won't escape that number.

Like, mind-numbingly, would you just shut the hell up and get over it, TERRIFIED.

So...

What's a girl to do?

Get over it. Of course.

This week is going to be scary as I work toward getting under 285. Once I'm under, it will be equally difficult to not allow myself to self-sabotage (CHEESEBURGERS, anyone?).

But I have to do this.

I NEED to do this. Not want, NEED. You get it, right?

I have to continue moving forward, even climbing UP (when all I want to do is go down, obviously).

Folks?

This IS the hardest thing I am ever going to do in my life.

Forget child-birth, forget in-grown toe-nail removal, or other near-death surgeries, injuries, and late nights out with friends...

This is IT.

MY life. YOUR life, OUR lives...

Ready?

Let's DO this!

Till next time!

...where I'm going to be sharing a bit about rejection...stay tuned!

Day 35 - Can't Blame McD's for THIS Mess

34 days.

34 freakin' days.

34 of the best (and worst) days of my life.

Seriously.

Today marks the end of week 5 in my weight loss journey and while I wasn't celebrating any successes, last night, I sure did make a mess of things.

Yesterday was one hot mess ALL day long but I could have pulled it out at the end...

And I didn't.

Instead, I gave in to a rare craving for the salty "goodness" that McDonald's provides by way of their double cheeseburger.

Only I ate two.

But I only had about 15 fries, she says, whining a teensy bit. Yah, because I stuffed them into the stupid (yep, I said stupid) cheeseburgers and gobbled them all up.

UGH.

And this was all done late last night, after imbibing with a couple of my favorite tall drinks.

It wasn't the alcohol that fueled my desire for McD's.

It sure as heck wasn't the knowledge that I was going to wake up feeling like crap and hating the scale this morning.

Poor scale.

I don't know what it was. Except that it's been 34 freakin' days and I had HAD it with healthy.

Do skinny folks go crazy sometimes and attack greasy food the way I did, last night?

I don't know. It's been a long time since I've been ANY kind of skinny.

Now what?

I've gotta shake this off. I have to weigh in for my 5 weeks tomorrow and I cannot allow this to drag me under.

A momentary lapse in judgement.

I only know what has happened in the past when I've given in to such craziness. I will not allow that to happen this time. I have too much at stake and I've already come too far to turn back. I don't know if others OVER analyze poor food choices.

I do. Because if I didn't think about or understand the ramifications of my actions, I would most certainly be right back up over 300.

And THAT is NOT going to happen.

Here's to day 35 - I've got this. Moving forward, not sideways, and certainly not backwards.

Bring it, day 35, let's DO this!

Till next time!

Day 34 - Craving Water

I am craving water, this morning. Which is a good thing because I spend a good portion of each day drinking water; and so you must know where else I spend a good portion of the day.

But it must be done.

Water is so essential to our weight loss success and drinking enough will have all the benefits you need to be healthy.

Did you know that you could DROWN from drinking too much water? Yep, it's true and I even (of course) wrote about it once.

So how much water is healthy?

(Go read my article, sillies. I explain it all right THERE!)

But if you haven't the time...

It's been said that you should drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day. If you are attempting weight loss, you should up that to half your body weight in ounces, per day. I weigh (today) 286.4, so I shall consume at least 143.2 ounces of water, today.

I do generally drink between 125 and 150 ounces of water per day. Depending upon my exercise and sweating factors, I do spend lots of time flushing it out; a necessary evil if you wish to be healthy.

The above article also shares other tips for why drinking water is so important for your over all health and as I sit here penning this post, I am enjoying a nice tall glass of cold 'n' tasty water. YUM!

As with any cravings, remember not to OVER indulge; but do remember to get your ounces of water (tea can also count toward your water ounces intake) in each day. Your body and your mind, as well as your spirit, will thank you!

Till next time!
