Day 33 - August MILES UPdate - WooHoo!

And we're OFF to a...

Another crazy morning around this old house and I am working on getting everyone going in the right direction this morning. I made breakfast for Mags (who is NOT feeling well and only half admits it; hopefully we are staving off Bronchitis by having her rest, fingers crossed). G is up and mostly ready to rock it, as we have a bunch of moving to do today - storage unit stuff, mostly; sweating stuff, YAY!

And now I want to talk about miles. The miles for August, of course. You do know about this 100 miles in August challenge, right?

Today is 8.18.12 and we are 13 days (including today) away from the end of the month. We had five folks originally sign up for this challenge (at least as far as ME keepin' track) and we are doing FABuLOUSly!

Let's break it down:

100 Miles in August Challenge:

Sandi - 45.33 miles to date - 54.67 miles to go - 4.21 miles per day to hit the 100 mile goal. Even slacking the last few days (swimming one day and taking the next day off) I feel good about where I'm at going forward in this challenge. Who knows, maybe I'll just do 101 miles, HA!

Anna - 39.5 miles to date - 60.5 miles to go - 4.65 miles per day to hit the 100 mile goal. Now, Anna injured her ankle early last week and has been on the DL for all this time. She so very much wants to complete this goal but knows she has to be smart about it. She was pulling around 6 miles per day before the injury so if she heals soon, will most certainly hit her mark, YAY!

Kathy - 65.71 miles to date - 34.29 miles to go - 2.64 miles per day to hit the 100 mile goal. Kathy jumped on this 100 miles challenge and never looked back. She has also gotten her family involved and  purchased a FitBit (one of my lustful things) to track her progress. Kathy could cake-walk these last 13 days and slide right by that 100 miles but who wants CAKE, anyway? Good for you, Kathy!

Stephanie - 46.95 miles to date - 53.05 miles to go - 4.08 miles per day to hit the 100 mile goal. Stephanie was also on the DL for a couple of days, having injured her knee. She's feeling better now and I see no issue with her hitting 100 miles in August. 4.08? Pfft, in her sleep...GOOOOO Steffie!

Bernie - 4.30 miles to date and I don't know what happened to my friend, Bernie. I know she's been wicked busy with work and other fun stuff (I don't know how this woman fits it all in, seriously...) and I haven't heard from her since the beginning of the month. Hopefully she is walking her butt off and will let us know soon, what her miles update is.

Now...just so's ya know...

There's no prize for this contest. At least I don't think there is, anyway. Other than claiming pride for a challenge well completed, as we have walked our tushes off for the last 17 days and we have ROCKED IT!

I wish all participants the best of luck and for no more injuries as we head into the home stretch. Get out there and WALK.

There's just no reason not to!

Till next time!

Day 32 - Friday Tip #2 from Barb - Soda is BAD for You?

WooHoo, it's Friday. Not that it means much around here with the end of summer fast approaching and a move across town that is threatening to drive me insane.

But ONE AWEsome thing about Fridays now, is that I'm bringing you a great fitness tip each week, right from our own Barb - who just spent a WHOLE week in Maine and didn't come see me.

:( = sad face.

But alas, she wasn't vacationing alone and you KNOW how THAT goes.

So...

Barb's Tip for This Fabulous Friday?

FITNESS TIP #2:  Stay Away From The Soda Pop

Are you a soda pop drinker?  Did you know that a regular can of Coca-cola has about 40 grams of sugar in it?  It also contains caffeine which can cause swelling and increase high blood pressure.  Diet soda pop is an unhealthy choice as well.  Most diet pops contain artificial sweeteners which are not good for your body and some contain a high level of salt to help flavor the drink.  Diet pop can cause you to crave sweets.  What's a healthy alternative to soda pop?  Water.  Aim to drink at least eight glasses a day.  Try adding a wedge of lemon or frozen grapes to add flavor to the water.

A GREAT tip, YAY!

Barb's right, you may love that sticky sweet drink, but it is NOT healthy for you. Even the diet soda is a no-no when you are life-changing. Because we don't CALL it dieting, right? We are changing our lives and in doing so, must remove all soda from our diets.

It's funny...growing up, we called it pop. Down south it's called soda; unless you're in Texas and there they simply call everything Coke. Want a coke? Okay, here's your Sprite.

And up here in the great Pine State, we also call it soda. I love the diversity but the soda-pop-coke-WHATEVER has got to go.

That's your Barb Tip for THIS Friday and now you know.

Want to know something else?

I'm going to tell you, anyway, surprise SURPRISE...

I forgot to weigh in this morning. Until after I'd eaten my breakfast and had drunk 28 oz. of water.

Der.

So the scale was not my bestie, but I'm not concerned because I've heard tell that a whole bowl of fruit and 3.5 glasses of water can really pack the pounds on - at least .8 pounds, anyway.

Till next time!

Day 31 - Rainy Days and What to DO...

This is NOT what I was going to post today so if you are here because I perked your interest with yesterday's post, I'm sorry. I changed my mind.

It happens.

But today I thought I would share what my plan is for getting in my 10,000 steps AND how I'm going to amuse my kiddo (WHEN does school start, again?).

Okay, first of all, I want you all to know that I have gained. After that AMAZING 3.8 pounds down, I have gained.

2 ounces. OMG, seriously?

No.

I'm not being serious - meaning I'm not upset about it. I know weight fluctuates daily and a two ounce gain is perfectly okay.

In the past, however?

BAHAHAHHAHA.

I would have been ballistic about it. I would have totally self-sabotaged and spent serious time derailing in ways that would boggle your mind (yes, it will all be in the book).

BUT...

I'm not going to do that, today.

Today is rainy here in ole P-town. And I've gotta figure a way to get my steps, amuse the kid, and do it all indoors.

Easy Peasy.

First step, taking G to work so we girls can have the car.

Second step, going to Walmart to get cat food. No, we don't HAVE to go ALL the way to Scarborough Walmart, but with more than 200,000 square feet AND a FAB selection of Iams Cat Food, we're going to truck on over and have ourselves a little indoor time at the WALLY WORLD.

Mags doesn't know it yet, but mom is planning hot feet all around that place WITHOUT filling our cart with things we don't need.

THEN, we'll drop back home for a healthy lunch (so I can share that fab ditty with you, soon) and then it's off to the pool. We are fortunate to have one hotel in our area that offers day rates for their pool to locals; and Mags and I are going to take full advantage of that feature, today.

Do you KNOW how many calories you can burn in a pool?

A LOT.

Especially since my kid is half a fish and we'll be in it till the bitter end - picking up G from work.

And that's it. Walking and swimming today, a bit unconventional, both. But we'll have some fun and get our exercise on, YAY!

So, if you find it rainy in your neck of the woods, get creative. Find something indoors and make it COUNT. You don't have to spend lots of money to do so; just go, have fun, and make yourself proud.

Till next time!
